Our History
Meeting A Need
First Nations schools have dramatically increased the number of students graduating from Grade 12. However, the 2004 Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) Educators Report identified a major concern. The Grade 12 graduates are generalists because their schools cannot offer the higher level maths and sciences required by professional degree programs like medicine and engineering. This is not the fault of the schools but of geography. Remote schools rarely have enough interested student to justify offering specialist classes like Physics 30 and even if they do, they may not be able to hire and retain a specialist teacher.
Credenda breaks the tyranny of geography. Using leading edge technology, we can create learning communities of students and teachers who meet online in real time regardless of their individual physical locations.
Our Logo
The logo represents the three language groups within the Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC). The wolf symbolizes the Dene; the trees and rock symbolize the Cree; and the teepee symbolizes the Dakota. The values, Courage, Love, and Respect, signify the strong First Nations values that we want to emphasize within our school. The combination of all three symbols on the Shield signify the unity between all First Nations for a common educational outcome.
Our Name
The word Credenda illustrates the merging of all the language groups of PAGC into one word and one world; bringing everyone together for one common purpose to learn, to excel, and to believe. Interestingly, the word, Credenda has Latin and French roots, meaning: "A thing to be believed."
Credenda = Cree + Dene + Dakota
At Credenda, we believe in our youth; we believe in their potential; we believe in providing them with a quality education that will open up more opportunities for a brighter future.
