Earth Day

22-Apr-2009 Our Earth Day celebration started with an impressive listing of our individual acts of green.
The career focus was "green collar" jobs, in particular, water technicians. We explored Principal Vince Hill's Water Quality Project entitled "The Value of Water". You can visit it at http://wilkes-im-wiki.wikispaces.com/. Water is the liquid of life and yet it is too often taken for granted. From space, our planet appears to have more water than land but less than 1% of our water is actually usable and this precious amount is under threat. We need to understand the value of water so that we can treat it with the reverence it deserves. Students in Wollaston Lake, Sturgeon Lake and Red Earth will be using both First Nations wisdom and modern technology to study the quality of water in their communities.

We then had a great tour of our Mother Earth as Kenneth Riese shared his recent trip to Europe and Africa. It was a green trip as Kenneth donated everything except the clothes he was wearing to charity before flying back. Kenneth also gave away some Credenda t-shirts for us.

25-Mar-2009 Principal Vince Hill began the assembly by commending all eStudents who are taking responsibility for their learning. This practice of responsibility will pay off in the world of work. A group of Credenda eStudents are taking on the responsibility of our Free the Children charity effort. As this is truly eStudent-driven, not eTeacher, please join as many hands make light work. Are you a gamer? Help out is testing out the Treaty Game. As we value your opinion, please complete the student survey so we can improve the game.

Career guest speaker Derek Verhelst shared his career path with us. He explained how an entry level position is not well paid but with enthusiasm can be well experienced. It is this on the job training and experience that is going to pay off. Verhelst's opening image shows that chartered accountants (CA) deal with the financial issues of divesting, merging, assets, capital, and property. Until making decisions are as easy as rolling dice, the finer print in the ad reads "look to a CA for the talent and integrity to make the right ones."

25-Feb-2009 After welcoming new and returning students and covering basic housekeeping items, like the importance of handing in assignments and taking advantage of recordings, we focused on the career of teaching.
Principal Vince Hill pointed out that often students stereotype teachers as old fuddy duddies. Our guest speaker, Rod Murray, happily broke the stereotype as he shared with us his teacher exchanged from Canada to Australia. Rod may be old but he is far from a fuddy duddy as he takes all kinds of healthy risks-- from scuba diving to surfboarding. He was especially affected by his trip to the .... (If you read our staff page, you may find some of our own eTeachers who break the stereotype, for example, Pat Murphy.) Then eStudent Steff Fletcher encourage students to email eTeacher Megaen Reader so we can get rolling on our Free the Children Charity. The eStudent lead group has some terrific ideas but needs your help to move them from ideas to action. Of course, more ideas are welcome too.

21-Jan-2009 After a brief talk to encourage eStudents to study for final exams, Principal Vince Hill handed the mic over to Sameer Agha, Manager Operations - EMEA (Europe Middle East) of Viable Dimensions.
Viable Dimensions is an outsourcing company is able to produce games. Credenda has been working with Sameer and the Office of the Treaty Commissioner to produce a Treaty Game. Sameer talked about listening to the clients needs and using graphic design to meet the needs. Of special note, Sameer was in Saudi Arabia and one of our eTeachers logged on from New Zealand.

17-Dec-2008 The highlight of our Christmas Assembly was a visit from Santa Claus, the jolly old elf himself.
He shared his resume with us and gave us lots of tips. Nancy Carswell turned academic dishonesty on its head by showing how to take plagiarism and turn it into secondary sources to impress your teachers. We had two awesome videos-- Success @ Credenda and Credenda Christmas created by Kristine Dreaver-Charles and Megaen Reader as well as a Christmas eCard from the eTeachers.

19-Nov-2008 Our November assembly was dedicated to launching our 100-School Challenge, this year's charity choice.
Heather Barkley of Free the Children shared amazing stories of hope that transpire when young people help others. Helen explained this three step doable action plan; 1) Tell one person. 2) Find your passion. 3) Get involved with Adopt a Village. Why 2) Find your passion? Albert Schweitzer said "The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve." The Adopt a Village program works to provide clean water, teach alternative incomes, and build schools. eStudents were interested in the overseas volunteering program too.
