Grade 12

Biology 30 Biology 30 studies the internal world and how it functions. It makes connections between the external, macroscopic world and the internal, microscopic world. It presents an understanding of homeostasis in living systems, and recognizes the similarity in the homeostasis of our global system.
Calculus 30 Calculus provides the understanding of limits, derivatives, integrals, and infinite series necessary for many science and engineering applications. After some background essentials, Calculus 30 covers functions, limits and continuity, differentiation, graphical applications of the the derivative, derivative applications, differentiating transcendental functions, integration, and area and the indefinite integral.
Chemistry 30 After a review of the basic principles, Chemistry 30 includes solubility and solutions, energy changes in chemical reactions, reaction kinetics, equilibrium, acid-base equilibrium, and oxidation and reduction.
English A30 English language Arts A30 (ELA A30) is organized around themes that focus on Canadian literature and society.
English B30 English Language Arts B30 (ELA B30) is an issue-oriented course that is organized around human concerns in a global society. English Language Arts B30 examines global perspectives using traditional and contemporary world literature in a comparative manner.
Info Pro 30 All young people need to understand the interrelationship among individuals, the business world, and government. All young people need competencies that will enable them to manage their own lives and careers effectively. They should be able to manage personal finances; act appropriately according to their rights and responsibilities as citizens; process information effectively and efficiently; make sound decisions about life choices and careers; and, participate constructively as both consumers and producers. These general competencies should be coupled with those that may lead to employment in business and to taking advanced business studies at the post-secondary level.
Law 30 Law is considered to be part of social science education, which refers to the disciplines that deal with the characteristic elements of human society. The Law 30 course is designed to assist students to become active, informed and productive citizens who know and understand their legal rights and responsibilities. Through the course, students develop an understanding of the concept of rule of law, and learn that the law reflects, and is shaped by, society’s values and attitudes regarding social and human relationships. The course begins by developing students’ understanding of the abstract nature of law, its sources and purposes. The abstract nature of law is made relevant through study of the concrete application of law to current legal issues in Canada and the global community. Topics addressed include foundations of Canada’s legal system, criminal and civil law, family law, employment and labour law, contract and consumer law, environmental law and international law .
Life Trans 30 The goal and focus of this course is to enable students to plan and manage their careers, their family, and their health throughout their life. This involves making informed decisions, setting goals and establishing plans to meet those goals. It means putting plans into action and then reshaping those plans as reality requires.
Math A30 Math A30 focuses on the following concepts: Permutations and Combinations, Data Analysis, Polynomials and Rational Expressions, Exponents and Radicals, Relations and Functions, Systems of Linear Equations, and Angles and Polygons.
Math B30 Math B30 focuses on the following concepts: Probability, Data Analysis, Matrices, Complex Numbers, Quadratic Equations, Polynomial and Rational Functions, and Exponential and Logarithmic Functions.
Math C30 Math C30 focuses on the following concepts: Mathematical Proof, Conic Sections, Circular Functions, Applications of Trigonometry, Trigonometric Identities, and Trigonometric Equations.
Native Studies 30 The aim of Native Studies is to develop personal awareness and cultural understanding, and to promote the development of positive attitudes in all students towards Indigenous peoples.
Physics 30 The study of physics will enable students to understand important aspects about the world in which they live, and make rational choices within a social, technological, and environmental context.
Psychology 30 The focus of this course is human development. Developmental psychology is the field of psychology that focuses on human development across the life span.

Grade 11

Biology 20 Bio 20 is a course for concentrators and non-concentrators in biology. It is based on the assumption that science is an important part of human culture, and that cultural literacy includes a broad knowledge of human thought and analysis, including the natural sciences. Bio 20 is intended to introduce students to some of the most important aspects of current biological theory, methodology, and research.
Computer Science 20 The Computer Science 20 course is divided into various topics. These topics include: the hardware and operating system, computer use in society, problem solving and programming. Visual Basic Studio 2008 Express Edition will be used for programming which is the main component of this course. (free download at
http://www.microsoft.com/express/vb/Default.aspx). Students will be designing and developing structured programming, looping controls, design functions and arrays in their Visual Basic Programs. The final project will be a detailed research project related to an area of interest in Computer Science.
Chemistry 20 Through the study of Chemistry students are given the opportunity to explore and understand the natural world. The Chemistry 20 program allows students to become aware of the profound influence that chemistry has in their lives. Chemistry is marked by its inquiry characteristics which require creativity and imagination – as such students are encouraged to ask questions and follow personal lines of inquiry.
ELA 20 English Language Arts 20 (ELA 20) is organized around themes that are of interest to adolescents and that focus on self, society, and what it means to be human. In this course, language processes are integrated. Also, language provides the foundation for all learning, including the study of literature and other forms of communication. Students use language to learn, think, and communicate effectively, and to understand the functions and forms of language.
French 20 French 20 builds on French 10 and continues to provide the opportunity to students to experience, learn and practice the language and culture of the French speaking world.
Info Pro 20 Info Processing 20 continues from Info Processing 10. The aim of Information Processing is to provide students with the basic skills to process information in four broad areas: keyboarding, computer applications, communications, and management of information. In this course students will complete modules on word processing, spreadsheets, and hypermedia tools.
Journalism 20 Journalism Studies 20 is concerned with the role of journalism in a democracy and with helping students grow in their language skills--particularly writing. The course will help students learn to gather, write, edit, publish, and produce news and other information for print and electronic media. In this course, students will also become knowledgeable about journalism and learn to organize their time, meet deadlines, think objectively, develop original styles, and gain experience in communicating clearly and effectively.
Leadership 20 The Leadership 20 course is designed to develop students’ knowledge and skills about Leadership. The course will promote student growth in the following areas: servant leadership, goal setting, problem solving and decision-making, group dynamics and communication skills, community participation – all with the aim of providing the skills necessary for students to effectively participate in community leadership roles. 
Math 20 Math 20 focuses on the following concepts: Data Analysis, Relations and Functions, Variables and Equations, Finance, Measurements, and Circles.
Media Studies 20 This course encourages students to expand their repertoire of language skills and strategies through the study of media communication. It assists students in dealing critically with the media in their lives. While media literacy is an important dimension of all English language arts curricula, this course gives students an opportunity to explore mass media and their effects on society in more depth. The purpose of Media Studies 20 is to develop the knowledge, skills, and disposition students need to understand and use media as informed and active citizens.
Physics 20 The study of Physics 20 will develop a concept map to show how the different disciplines in science are interrelated. Physics 20 consists of four units of study: Kinematics and Dynamics, Circular Motion and Gravitation, Mechanical Waves, and Light.
Psychology 20 Social Psychology deals with how we act and interact in a social world. It is a study in human thoughts, feelings and behaviours, how we influence other people and how they in turn influence us. Social psychology deals with matters of the heart, soul and mind. It is an opportunity to reflect upon ourselves, who we are, why we do what we do, and what kind of person we want to become.
Social Responsibility 20 This course will provide authentic opportunities for students to develop these and other virtues as students become agents of change in the world. This course will be of interest to those students who want to make a difference in the world by recognizing local and/or global issues and wanting to contribute to positive change.

Grade 10

ELA A10 English Language Arts A10 (ELA A10) encourage students to develop an understanding and appreciation of the significance and artistry of literature.
ELA B10 English Language Arts B10 (ELA 10) help students understand and appreciate language and to use it confidently for a variety of purposes and in a variety of situations for communication, personal satisfaction and learning.
Cree 10 The Cree 10 course is designed to teach the Cree writing systems using Standard Roman Orthography and Syllabics. We will also be using a language teaching method called Accelerated Second Language Acquisition to learn vocabulary. The students will go online to the Gift of Language and Culture web site to practice the ASLA method. The other site that they will use is the Online Cree Dictionary. The students will learn phrases that they might practice in their daily lives. Music will be one of the tools used to teach Cree.
Computer Production Technology The Communication Production Technology 10, 20, 30 Curriculum Guide is designed to provide opportunities for students to acquire and develop knowledge, skills, and abilities in audio, video, and multimedia production technologies.
French 10 The French Language and Culture 10 are international language programs offered to provide the opportunity to students to experience, learn and practice the language and culture of the French speaking world.
Info Pro 10 The aim of Information Processing is to provide students with the basic skills to process information in four broad areas: keyboarding, computer applications, communications, and management of information. In this course students will complete modules on word processing, spreadsheets, and hypermedia tools.
Math 10
Foundations
The full name of this course is Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-calculus 10. It is one of two pathways. It is recommended that students take both pathways to identify the math that is most suitable to them, particularly, to their career interests. Foundations and Pre-calculus content was chosen to meet the needs of students pursuing university education. Foundations for the humanitities, fine arts, social sciences, and nursing, while Pre-Calculus content was chosen for the maths and sciences. Parent pamphlet available here.
Math 10 Apprentice-ship Workplace and Apprenticeship Mathematics 10 is one of two pathways. It is recommended that students take both pathways to identify the math that is most suitable to them, particularly, to their career interests. The content was chosen to meet the needs of students thinking of careers in the trades and general workplace. Parent pamphlet available here.
Native Studies 10 The aim of Native Studies 10 is to help all students develop their knowledge, positive attitudes and cultural understanding about First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. The unique history of Aboriginal peoples is part of our collective past and present reality. Thus, students will benefit from a study of Aboriginal peoples because it will give them the opportunity to understand and respect one another.
Science 10 The Science 10 course emphasizes four of the key concepts of science: change, energy, matter and systems. This course helps develop a solid understanding of the fundamental science concepts and principles. Science 10 has the goal of educating students about the nature of science and technology, and the interaction between science and technology.
PAA Energy & Mines

The aim of the Energy and Mines 10 is to provide students with information, skills and abilities that will both make them knowledgeable and responsible citizens and prepare them to pursue careers or employment opportunities in energy and mining industries and/or the services supporting them.

PAA Career & Work The aim of Career and Work Exploration is to provide students with opportunities to develop and enhance the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to raise awareness, to access information, and to understand, shape and manage their life career development. Students will be able to expand their awareness, to explore and to experience various work roles through work-based learning experiences.
